Andrew Denton is a producer, writer and former television and radio personality, best known for hosting ABC's highly regarded interview program Enough Rope. He first came to public attention in 1988 as the writer and presenter of the ABC TV series Blah Blah Blah. Since then has written, presented and produced numerous shows across several genres and is widely recognised as one of Australia's genuine creative forces.
In 1989 Denton founded the production company Zapruda's Other Films with Anita Jacoby and Peter Thompson. The company has been a home for innovative new talent, including The Chaser team, the Hungry Beast team and Todd Sampson and Russel Howcroft, both of whom were discovered on The Gruen Transfer.
Andrew has been involved in the production of notable programs such as Election Chaser, CNNNN, David Tench Tonight, Enough Rope, Hungry Beast, Gruen Sweat and The Gruen Transfer. In early 2012 Zapruda's Other Films merged with Cordell Jigsaw and the resulting entity, Cordell Jigsaw Zapruder (CJZ), is Australia's largest locally-owned production company.
Denton has won a number of awards, including the Gold Logie Award for Most Popular Personality on Australian Television in 2008 and 2009 and the Most Popular Presenter award in 2005, 2008 and 2009 for his role in Enough Rope. He also received the Most Popular Comedy Personality award in 1996, for his role in Denton. Most recently, Gruen Sweat, the brain child of Denton and Jon Casimir, won Best Entertainment Show at the Rose d'Or Awards in 2013.
Though Denton is currently taking a break from television, he has not ruled out a return. He currently lives in Sydney with his wife Jennifer Byrne and his son Connor.
