Celebrating 50 Years with Saxton
We are delighted to be celebrating 50 years this year. It’s been a fantastic journey over which we have been privileged to meet some remarkable people and many became close friends. It began with Joan Saxton herself, who founded the bureau in 1965 and who speaks fondly of one of the early speakers Sir Zelman Cowan.
What we consider to be our Saxton family has grown to include many Australian greats over that 50 years, including the late Hon. E Gough Whitlam, James Strong AO, Bryce Courtenay AO and Rt Hon David Lange, who were brilliant orators all. Our current speakers include Ita Buttrose AO OBE, Mike Munro, Rachel Botsman, Dr Michael Carr-Gregg, Richard Morecroft, Rod McGeoch AO, Graeme Joy, Layne Beachley, Mark Bouris, Gill Hicks OBE, Naomi Simson, Megan Quinn, Chris Riddell and Vinh Giang. All are unique and have something special to share.
There is much to look back on from the days following the pioneering work of Joan Saxton to the significant developments in infrastructure, events and associations that followed. The Saxton story however has been, to us, much more than that – it represents so many special friendships from so many special people. This is the very foundation of Saxton.
We pay tribute to the late James Strong – a dear friend and mentor for over a quarter of a century and latterly Chairman. He would love to have been with us to share this celebration.
We thank everyone who has contributed to the success of Saxton Speakers bureau – our team, our Board (Jeanne-Claude Strong, Ann Verschuer and John Forsyth), our speakers and entertainers, our clients and all our other supporters.
Throughout that 50 years we have concentrated on a simple mantra – quality product and quality people – it’s been the key to what success we have achieved and it will be our guiding light going forward.
This blog is dedicated to those people (and the many others in the Saxton family) and to sharing their wisdom, expertise and often humorous asides with you.
We hope that this series of articles in some way proves to be of value to you, and importantly, that you enjoy them.
