Chris commenced his AFL career as a player for the Melbourne Football Club. He played 84 games for the club between 1984 and 1989 before moving into the coaching arena.
He was coach of Eastern Ranges in the TAC Cup from 1991 to 1995 and was assistant coach of Hawthorn Football Club from 1991 to 1995. He was appointed senior coach of Fremantle Football Club (Dockers) at the conclusion of the 2001 season to rebuild the football department and establish on-field credibility. Fremantle was a club in disarray, wining only two games in the 2001 season, including a run of 17 losses in a row and winning the wooden spoon. The club also lost over $2.5m in the previous three years, and was $8m in debt.
Chris moulded a skilled and accountable group of players that saw Fremantle reach the 2006 preliminary final and become one of the AFL’s success stories.
Off the field, the club turned itself around generating continual profits and in 2005 announced it was completely debt free. It has a full sponsorship portfolio, record membership of over 30,000 members, and regularly attracts record crowds to all home games.
In late 2007 Chris made his homecoming to Victoria and the club he played his AFL career for, the Melbourne Demons. He took upon the role of head of football operations in readiness for the 2008 season. With red and blue blood running through his veins Chris has now set himself on rebuilding the oldest and proudest club in the league back to it's powerful best.
Chris is a much sought after corporate speaker who has the ability to articulate the elements of success in a humorous, motivational and down-to-earth style which is always a winner with any audience.
His presentation includes a bridge between the business world and the world of competitive sport. His infectious good-natured humour always leaves audiences laughing.
