By becoming the first and only Australian to win a football scholarship in the United States and be drafted into the National Football League (NFL), Colin shares his unique persistence that put him through challenges that no other Australian has ever achieved. He played on the front line of the most intense, complex, explosive game in the world.
After 10 years on the field, Colin's career ended in a freak injury, but that didn't stop him from conquering America and being successful with other business ventures.
After 20 years in the States he came home to Sydney for the Olympics, and he once again experienced Australia's unique spirit and passion which makes it the envy of the world. But as the visitors went home he began also to see that that spirit was being eroded in a world of growing stress, insecurity, fear and obesity. His country was at the crossroads. The defining Aussie values of humour, courage and a fair go which got him through his darkest days in America now seemed to rack his countrymen with self doubt. Are we losing our Aussie values and our health? These are two subjects that Colin now fights for.
Colin is passionate that it is time to reignite the best qualities in all of us and export them to the world. For the last two years Colin has become a leading activist in the fight against Childhood Obesity. In particular this has led him to discover and then passionately embrace the Bluearth Institute's primary school program, a program for getting kids moving in a non competitive way. After selling this vital program to the Federal Government, it is now very close to being established in every school in Australia. Through Colin's passion and determination, the future of our children's health is looking a little brighter. He has recently been awarded the honour of being an ambassador for the Federal Government on Childhood Obesity.
Colin's life story, titled All Balls, was published through Pan MacMillan.
Client Comments for Colin Scotts
Colin Scotts travels from New South Wales Australia
- Colin Scotts is one of the uncelebrated achieving Australians. What he did in taking his athletic talents from here to the incredibly competitive world of American football is something few would contemplate, and even fewer could successfully negotiate. He did that and more. Colin Scotts is a personable and achieving Australian. Someone who's happy to tilt at windmills. And we can never have enough of them.
Alan Jones - Australian Broadcaster
- A natural intelligent funny and heartfelt speaker. His message, vision and presence is inspiring.
Joe Kennedy - US Congressman
- He is the most unique, rugged individual that I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. If you ever have the opportunity to hear Colin Scotts speak…… take it!
- Colin had the whole room captivated from the minute he started until he finished one hour later. The highest form of achievement is to help someone, and Colin was able to do this with my colleagues. His life story is a ‘One off" experience and must be heard. It was a rollercoaster of emotions that touched everyone. I have never had such positive feedback about a speaker.
