Dami Im represented Australia at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest held in Stockholm, Sweden. Dami performed the song Sound Of Silence and she came second overall.
Winner of the fifth series of The X Factor Australia in 2013, Dami Im's Winner's Single 'Alive' - released on Sony Music Australia - debuted at number one on the ARIA Singles Chart.
Born in South Korea, Dami emigrated to Australia at the age of nine, and taught herself to sing by recording herself copying her favourite artists. At the age of 11, she began studying at the Young Conservatorium of Music program at Griffith University. A violinist and pianist as well as a singer, Dami was a national finalist in the Yamaha Youth Piano Competition and won the Nora Baird Scholarship and the Queensland Piano Competition several times. In 2009, Im graduated from the University of Queensland with first class honours in a Bachelor of Music and was a music and piano teacher before competing in The X Factor.
Dami's short career as a gospel singer in Korea culminated in Dream, an album of nine tracks recorded to raise money for church endeavours. In July 2011, Dami re-released the album with two extra tracks, in December 2011 a seven-track Christmas EP Snow & Carol, and in July 2012 the five-track EP Intimacy.
Dami successfully auditioned for The X Factor Australia in early 2013 with Maria carey's 'Hero' by Mariah Carey, and progressing through the early rounds with Avril Lavigne's 'I'm with You', Emeli Sandé's 'Next to Me' and Dolly Parton's 'Jolene', Beyoncé's 'If I Were a Boy', and U2's 'One'. In the themed Live Shows, Dami memorably performed Prince's 'Purple Rain' to a standing ovation, Thelma Houston's version of 'Don't Leave Me This Way', Katy Perry's 'Roar', The Foo Fighters' 'Best of You', Simon & Garfunkel's 'Bridge over Troubled Water', Zedd's 'Clarity', John Farnham's 'You're the Voice', Whitney Houston's 'Saving All My Love for You' and Miley Cyrus' 'Wrecking Ball'.
Dami performed three songs – her audition song, winner's single ('Alive') and last shot song ('And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going') - during the Grand Final on 27 October. 'Alive' was later released as a single by Sony Music Australia, with whom Dami received a recording contractand a management deal. Four days after its release, 'Alive' debuted at number one on the ARIA Singles Chart and was certified Gold by the Australian Recording Industry Association, selling more than 35,000 copies. In November 2013, Dami embarked on The X Factor Live Tour across Australia with Third Degree, Taylor Henderson, Jiordan Tolli and Jai Waetford. Her self-titled album Dami Im features studio recordings of songs performed on the program.
Her performance at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest was widely praised.
