He is the only Australian performer to have been voted Comedian of the Year at the Australian Variety Artists Mo Awards on 11 occasions. In 1997 the Variety Club of Australia presented Martell their Heart Award for comedy. At the ACE awards in 2003, Martell received Comedian of the Year and Entertainer of the Year.
