Joel Bowden is one of the Richmond Football Club's best-loved sons, a former skillful and hard-running backman, possessing one of the best left foots in the game and a powerful work ethic.
Recruited by Richmond under the father-son rule in 1995, his father Michael having been a premiership player with the Tigers in 1969, Joel was a Norwich Rising Star nominee in 1997 and the Richmond Best and Fairest winner in 2004 and 2005. In 2009 he played his 265th and final match.
He currently owns and manages a coffee shop, Birdie Num Num's, with his brother and former teammate Patrick Bowden in the suburb of North Carlton and in 2007 was declared the new president of the AFL Players Association.
Joel Bowden was a dynamic player with exceptional skills, juggling football commitments with regular media appearances. His drive and leadership skills along with numerous experiences make for thought-provoking and inspiring speeches.
