As one of Australia's most sought after stand-up comedians, Anh is an accomplished comedian and MC with ten years experience. A talented writer, actor, producer and comedian, Anh went from being a starving refugee at the age of three to a successful commercial lawyer to one of Australia's best-loved entertainers. His legal background provides him with a unique understanding of the corporate world. He has played to sell out crowds at the Melbourne Comedy Festival and The Sydney Opera House.
After bagging every comedy award in town, including the Sydney Comedian of the Year, and appearing on every television show featuring comedians including Rove Live, Spicks & Specks, Thank God You're Here, Dancing with the Stars and The Footy Show, Anh finally realised his regular gigs at Rooty Hill Bikers' Club would one day get him killed. Since then, Anh has turned to his hand to acting, film producing, writing and the speaking world, where he has proven an incredibly popular MC, motivational keynote speaker and corporate entertainer.
Anh is co-producer of the film The Finished People, described by Margaret Pomeranz as "one of the best Australian films of the year". The film was officially selected for the Montreal International Film Festival and was released to rave reviews in Australia.
Anh's other writing credits include the script for the feature film Footy Legends in which he acted alongside an all-star Australian cast including Angus Sampson, Claudia Karvan and Emma Lung. He has been a sketch writer for SBS's Life Support and was Sitcom Head Writer for Westy Ninja.
An accomplished actor, Anh was a regular on Channel 9's Don't Blame Me and has appeared in guest roles on Seachange, All Saints and Pizza.
Anh's awards and nominations include:
- Winner - Sydney Comedian of the Year (1999) - Winner - National Green Faces Comedy Competition (2000) - Winner - NSW Triple J Raw Comedy Competition (1999) - Winner - Co-writer of 'Best Short Film 2001', Palm Springs Film Festival, USA - Winner - Co-writer of 'Best Screenplay 2001', St Kilda Film Festival, Victoria - Nominee for 'Best Short Film 2001' and for 'Best Screenplay 2001', AFI Awards
In 1999 Anh completed degrees in Business and in Law at the University of Technology, Sydney.
In September, 2010, Anh's book The Happiest Refugee: A memoir was published. It describes how his entire family came close to losing their lives at sea as they escaped from war-torn Vietnam in an overcrowded boat, facing murderous pirates and the imminent threat of death by hunger, disease and dehydration, to Anh's current status as one of Australia's best-loved comedians.
