Australian sporting icon Herb Elliott burst onto the international athletic scene in 1958 when he became the youngest athlete to break the four minute mile.
At the Rome Olympic Games in 1960 Herb ensured his place as an Australian hero by winning the Gold Medal in the 1500m and breaking his own world record in a time of 3:35.6.
When he finally retired from athletics, Herb had accrued an amazing 44 consecutive victories in world class competition for distances over the mile.
A former CEO of Puma North America and Director of Athlete and Corporate Relations with the Australian Olympic Committee, Herb's post-athletic career has been similarly impressive.
His current directorships include Ansell Ltd, Fortescue Metals Group Ltd and he is currently Chair of the Telstra Foundation Ltd. In addition, at the start of 2006, Herb Elliott was appointed as a Doctor of the Queensland University of Technology.
