Hoodoo Gurus

Speaker Profile
One of the most popular Australian bands of their time, the Hoodoo Gurus were formed in Sydney in 1981 by Dave Faulkner, Richard Grossman, Mark Kingsmill and Brad Shepherd. Their popularity grew throughout the 1980s with the consecutive releases of hugely successful albums Mars Needs Guitars!, Blow Your Cool! and Magnum Cum Louder.
Many of their songs have become well-known classics, such as 'Bittersweet', 'My Girl', 'I Want You Back' and of course 'What's My Scene?', which was later modified to 'That's My Team' to become the NRL theme song in the 2000s.
As a testament to their popularity and iconic status on the Australian rock scene, the Hoodoo Gurus were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2007. The citation for the band's nomination opened with the line 'For two and a half decades the Hoodoo Gurus have consistently been one of the most inventive, lyrically smart and exciting rock 'n' roll bands Australia has ever produced.'
Since regrouping in 2003, the Hoodoo Gurus have been in much demand, playing concerts and festivals domestically and around the world.
