Iain Murray was included in the Australia Day Honours list in 1992 as a member of the Order of Australia for his services to sailing, yacht design and to the community. His extraordinary sailing achievements include 10 World Championships, 10 Australian Championships, nine State Championships and five First Place International Trophies. He has also competed in four America's Cup contests, four Sydney to Hobart races, three Admirals Cup races and a Tour de France. In 1984 he was named Australian Yachtsman of the Year. He is currently CEO and Regatta Director of America's Cup Race Management (ACRM).

As part of his passion for sailing Iain has always been involved in boat design. He began his first design business as a teenager in 1972 and has become of Australia's leading yacht designers. His ability to visualise and create fast , beautiful shapes is unquestioned. Iain has designed and built 12-metre yachts for the Kookaburra (1987) and One Australia (1995) America's Cup campaigns. Currently he is associated with Bashford International Ptd Ltd-Australia's largest yacht builder.

Current experience:

His own yacht design and engineering company, Iain Murray & Associates, specialises in marine design and high end engineering such as finite element analysis, computer software, yacht design and optimisation, tank testing, composite engineering and general marine design. His business interests also encompass event management and property development. One of his many successful projects was the conversion of the Sydney Wool store into 550 apartments. He was also involved with the reconstruction of the Sydney Observatory Tower from a commercial building into 200 prestigious residential apartments.
