Melanie Symons is a highly-experienced and respected television presenter and actor: one of Australia's favourite personalities. Her recipe for success comes from her enthusiasm for life, blended with sincerity and topped with effervescence.
The half Greek-goddess is currently adored by viewers as a star presenter of travel show, Sydney Weekender on Channel 7. The TV show involves two of Melanie's dearest passions: travel and food. Her love of eating out in great restaurants comes from her childhood, growing up in a warm and hospitable family (her mother and father owners of a Greek Taverna).
Melanie began her national career as the key presenter on Channel Ten’s children’s program Totally Wild, which was to be the start of it all. Four years later a move to Sydney spelled Melanie’s first big break with Channel 7. She spent five years as an extremely popular Host and Segment Producer of Saturday Disney. The best bits? Being part of an unscripted weekly program with her two co-hosts, creating and playing her own light-hearted characters and
superheros, interviewing international music and film stars and jet-setting around the world to shoot the show and host Disney on Ice.
Next, Melanie brought glamour to gardening and renovation, changing the landscape of lifestyle TV in her threeyear stint as a lead presenter of prime time series Ground Force. Her natural down-to-earth style was a hit with viewers Australia-wide.
The fashion-savvy Melanie then introduced morning viewers to a new how-to-dress segment on number one breakfast show Sunrise. Known as a style-standout among A' Listers, she always sparkles on the red carpet.
Melanie is a celebrated all-rounder. In a long-standing relationship with Channel 7, she co-hosted Wheel of Fortune and reported for sport on major racing carnivals including the Melbourne Cup. Lifestyle series such as Australia’s Best Backyards and Great Summer Ideas came next. She discovered a love for diving, working on Whit’s Walkabout filmed on the Great Barrier Reef, where she was featured swimming with sharks. Guest appearances on camera are too-many-to-mention, including game shows, children’s programs, lifestyle specials and telethons.
To add to her long list of credits Melanie Symons has also researched, scripted and presented local reports and world weather news for The Weather Channel. Melanie continues to build on her talents as an actor, and has appeared in prime time Australian soap opera Home and Away. She has played lead roles in pilots, short films and popular characters on children's television, while studying at acclaimed acting academies The Actor’s Centre, Screenwise and The Actor’s Pulse and she is currently with Ivana Chubbuck technique tutor Anthony Brandon Wong.
Regarded as a highly accomplished compere.
