Merrick & Rosso
Merrick Watts and Tim Ross have come a very long way since the two stand up comedians teamed up for a one off comedy show in 1996.
Merrick and Rosso are now amongst the biggest names in Australian entertainment with sell out stand up tours, syndicated radio programs, network and pay TV shows, DVDs and even a best selling book... well it's not exactly the Da Vinci Code mind you.
In 2001, they were the first voices to be heard on Sydney's NOVA 969, the first new radio station in Sydney for over 20 years. They soon took the station to the top of the ratings and their Morning show began daily syndication as other Nova stations launched in other states.
After starting television with the series Planet Merrick and Rosso on pay TV for the comedy Channel, they moved to the Nine Network where they produced three series of Merrick and Rosso Unplanned. This put their improv skills to the test as the show consisted of them taking questions from the audience and creating comedy from the response. They then went on to produce the eight part sketch show The B Team for the Ten Network.
Since their first imaginatively titled live stand up show the lads have sold out pubs, clubs and theatres all over the country. Their two mega hits 'The Unprofessionals' and 'We Look Great in Jeans' are the two fastest selling stand up comedy shows in Australian history.
Apart from the run of the mill comedy stuff, they have also entertained United Nation Troops in East Timor, been official broadcasters during the Sydney 2000 Olympics, turned down a couple of questionable film roles, acted in the top rating Aussie drama All Saints, appeared in a Beastie Boys film clip, and interviewed hundreds of people from John Travolta to Jodie Foster. In 2004, Merrick raced Olympic Gold Medallist Ian Thorpe in the pool and lost. In 2006, both Merrick and Rosso were trained by Al Gore to be climate change ambassadors, where Rosso was so moved that he stood up and told the former Vice President of the US that he was a legend. Nice one Rosso!
