Speaker Profile
Every now and then you'll be at a performance and witness something extraordinary. Something you and that particular audience share as one of those unforgettable experiences that you never saw coming. Darren Percival, aka Mr Percival, is that experience.
Requiring only his microphone and a few electronic pedals with which he records and loops his voice to create beats, basslines, harmonies and melodies, Darren Percival's is a unique take on a cappella, and is taking the corporate scene by storm. Using only his voice, Darren Percival can sound as cavernous and rich as a Brooklyn gospel choir or as danceable as your favourite hip-hop DJ.
A jazz artist of talent, imagination and skill, Darren Percival has over 20 years of professional musical experience working as an entertainer, recording artist, vocal coach and innovator. In 2011 he was nominated for Entertainer of the Year at the Australian Event Awards.
As a solo act, Darren Percival can deliver whatever performance suits his environment. At just about every show he will ask the crowd to yell out a word that he can use to build an entire new song and arrangement in front of them.
So impressed was Russell Crowe that he asked Darren Percival to support the Oscar-winning actor's band, the Ordinary Fear of God, on a five-month tour, and his friend and mentor Jimmy Barnes had the following to say...'Mr Percival is a unique act. The things he does by himself on record as well as live I can't even begin to think about without being very confused. He is a great singer who has come up with a completely new way of presenting his songs and his spirit to the world. I for one am a fan and wait with anticipation to see what he will come up with next.'
A truly versatile performer, Darren Percival presents in show (The Darren Percival Show), as a conference energiser (Singing From the Same Page), in cocktail and after-dinner party format (The Interactive Cocktail and After Dinner Performance), and as a remarkable teambuilding experience (The Harmonic Solutions). He offers a unique and interactive show perfect for lunch or dinner which highlights his amazing vocal talents and involves his audience in making wonderful music. Darren Percival knows how to immediately connect with people from all walks of life to create a safe and truly unique workshop or team building experience, tailored to the conference theme and reinforcing the key messages of the conference through uplifting and rhythmic music that resonates with the audience long after the conference has finished.
Darren Percival can currently be seen on The Voice Australia. You can catch his stunning rendition of John Lennon's 'Jealous Guy', here, his Battle Round performance of James Taylor's 'Shower the People' here, and his Live Round knockout 'Wherever I Lay My Hat' by Paul Young here.

- With the seemingly incongruous notion that you can meld grandeur and honesty, from Out Of The Loop comes Mr Percival. As a testament to this bizarre notion, night after night at last year's Woodford Folk Festival, Mr Percival commanded standing ovations in celebration of an artist who must and will be in the hall of honour. A Capella, performance artist, sleight of hand. Call it what you wish, because he does defy pigeonholing, but one thing is for sure, Mr Percival, with a voice created by angels, is a festival of talent in his own right.
Jane Burridge - Occasionally you hear something that breaks a few rules - that's nice, that's exciting... but what Mr Percival does is so free, so purely musical, that rules don't even apply enough to be broken. This is music straight from the heart.
James Morrison - Mr Percival is a unique act. The things he does by himself on record as well as live I can't even begin to think about without being very confused. He is a great singer who has come up with a completely new way of presenting his songs and his spirit to the world. I for one am a fan and wait with anticipation to see what he will come up with next.
Jimmy Barnes - Ah! Mr Percival - is what I'd describe as a walking, talking musical instrument. A man who never ceases to amaze me with his gift, humor and generosity... and he is as unique as Australia itself. Love, light and melody. Ah! Melody...
Marcia Hines - Listening to the insanely beautiful vocal stylings of Mr Percival can change the beat of my heart, it's that moving. See him live or hear any of his tracks and you too will become entranced. It's like he is the Piper and we are the rats.
Julia Morris - Mr Percival's voice is a remarkable instrument which exposes his soulful heart.
Vince Jones - Mr Percival is art for the ears.
Ken Done - A great night, a real talent, and such a nice man.

He had the crowd eating out of the palm of his hand and really added that something special to our event that I'm sure will live long in the memories of our clients who attended. Not only that but he was also very easy to work with and was a pleasure to work with.

The Darren Percival Show: The Live Performance
Mr Percival is a recording artist, entertainer and vocalist of the highest order. His live performances have been described as more than just a concert but put simply 'a vocal ride of abundant sonic bliss'. Using a sequence of looping pedals he creates a one man show with his unique form of a capella - it's entertaining, amazing and immensely moving and there is the option to have everyone join him a in a chorus at the end of the presentation. Duration: 35 minutes (maximum 40 minutes).
Singing From the Same Page
A unique conference energiser and teambuilder, Mr Percival begins by laying down the foundations of a piece of music, gradually involving audience members until the whole audience are performing as a choir. Duration: 45-50 minutes.
The Interactive Cocktail and After Dinner Performance
Mr Percival, a finalist in the Australian Entertainer of the Year Awards, is quite literally unique. In the cocktail party format he commences with his own brand of one man a capella: he is the cello, the drum, the chorus and the lead voice - he is mesmerising. He then draws the audience in to join the performance... never intimidating, people join in small groups to take on the simplest to the more complicated parts in a group performance. Some voice the drums, some the chorus and some the more complicated parts. He has an extraordinary ability to make people feel at home in what most initially feel is an uncomfortable situation. At the end everybody feels part of a special musical experience. It's great teamwork and a lot of fun for everyone involved, and it works from groups of 20 or less to many hundreds of people. He is that unforgettable act you never saw coming! Duration: typically 35 minutes.
The Harmonic Solutions
Harmonic Solutions is a remarkable team building experience. Mr Percival takes a small group of 20 people (often senior executives but not necessarily so) and turns them into a cohesive and very musical group. His style is not invasive, intimidating and even the person who considers themselves to be not remotely musical makes a very positive contribution. The result is a group of people with a new sense of confidence, a very positive effect on the whole team; and an enjoyable and very enabling experience. Duration: typically 120 minutes.
