Peter Baxter was the producer of the great cricket institution Test Match Special for BBC Radio for 34 years. Inside the Box is the personal, touching and at times, laugh out loud funny, account of his time inside the box. The book, with a foreword by Jonathan Agnew, was published in May 2009 to coincide with the much-hyped Ashes Test Series and was touted by many in the trade as the cricket book of the year.
Test Match Special was first broadcast over 50 years ago with the slogan: 'don't miss a ball, we broadcast them all.' TMS has always had a distinctly irreverent style, which on occasion could lead to hilarity in the box. With its many previously untold stories and unique insight behind the scenes of Test Match Special and into the world of radio broadcasting, Inside the Box is a glorious celebration of three decades of cricket.
During his tenure at Test Match Special, Peter Baxter worked alongside the legendary John Arlott, the inimitable Brian Johnston and the unforgettable Henry Blofeld and ushered in new faces, such as Jonathan Agnew, who continue to entertain, inform and charm listeners today.
Peter Baxter has spent a lifetime in radio broadcasting, retiring from the trade in June of 2007. He is also the author of Cricket's Greatest Battles. World Cup: Cricket's Clash of the Titans, Cricket's Big Day Out, Out of the Rough: England v West Indies - Highlights Since 1948 and The Ashes: Highlights Since 1948. and has edited many titles including Test Match Special - 50 Not Out.

- Peter recently proposed the toast to cricket at our annual black-tie Members' Dinner. While not a household name among cricket fans, Peter's vast experiences over 34 years behind the scenes as producer of BBC's Test Match Special program have obviously provided him with a great insight into not only the game of cricket, but also the many players and commentators involved during that time. His address reflected on a number of these experiences in a very structured and highly articulate, entertaining and humorous manner. The formal post-function feedback we received from our members rated Peter's address extremely highly and his performance was up there as one of the finer after-dinner addresses we have had at a club function for many years. A real surprise packet!

- Without doubt, the audience thoroughly enjoyed Peter's presentation which was extremely professional and very entertaining. This year's Wellington Town Council Literary Festival has been the most successful we have held, measured not only by the numbers attending, but also the audience reaction, which has been uniformly positive. Peter's event played a big part in this and we wish to repeat our thanks to him for contributing to this success.

"The greatest blunders, like the thickest ropes, are often compounded of a multitude of strands. Take the rope apart, separate it into the small threads that compose it, and you can break them one by one. You think, 'That is all there was!' But twist them all together and you have something tremendous."
