Telford AM PhD
Professor Richard Telford is Australia's first full time sports scientist and a Foundation Fellow of the Australian Sports Medicine Federation. He has been appointed the High Performance Coach for Athletics Australia in Distance Running together with an adjunct professorial post at Griffith University. The former Head of the Department of Physiology/Applied Nutrition at the Institute in Canberra, he is one of Australia's top coaches and a fine athlete. He has been adviser, coach and consultant to state cricket teams, AFL football teams and Olympic athletes in various sports.
The list of athletes Dick has coached to National titles and international standard is extensive and includes Rob De Castella and Andrew Lloyd. In the past two decades he is the only Australian coach to have finalists in the 5k/10k track events in the Olympics or World Championships (5 athletes) or Gold medallists in the Commonwealth Games in these events ( 2 athletes). Dick is the only Australian coach to have an athlete win an Olympic medal in the marathon.
He is an entertaining and motivating speaker whose speeches include video excerpts from remarkable sporting performances and parallels between the elite athlete and the top businessman.
