As far back as he can remember, Russell Gilbert has been mad about two things: Aussie rules football and comedy. When he wasn't playing football or barracking for Footscray, he was listening to comedy records.
It wasn't until his early twenties, however, that he performed his first stand up routine, which proved to be a popular talent quest win at the local footy club.
He went on to perform stand up at the Last Laugh Theatre Restaurant, an opportunity that proved to be a defining moment. It catapulted Russell into the big time, leading to work with comedians such as Trevor Marmalade, Glenn Robbins, Mark Mitchell and Wendy Harmer. He has since enjoyed a successful career as a performer, media personality and writer.
Russell received a Best Comedy performer nomination at the Logies, has written and performed in Network Ten's Comedy Company. He was the star of the Nine Network's Russell Gilbert Show, and hosted the Australia-wide radio program Russell Gilbert Live. Russell was also an integral part of Hey Hey It's Saturday and has written for Network Ten's popular comedy series The Wedge. He most recently toured the United States with Russell Crowe and his 30 Odd Foot Of Grunts, and was co-host (with Livinia Nixon) of the Nine Network's Bark Off. Among his other media appearances are as a guest on game show Temptation and Joker Poker.
Russell Gilbert is the consummate corporate performer. Entertaining, polished and meticulously prepared – he is equally at home as a performer or master of ceremonies.
