Mr. Sam M. C. Walsh, AO, B.Com., has been the Chief Executive Officer at Rio Tinto Ltd. and Rio Tinto plc since January 17, 2013. Mr. Walsh serves as Chief Executive Officer of Rio Tinto Group and Robe River Iron Associates. Mr. Walsh served as the Chief Executive of Iron Ore Rio Tinto Ltd. and Rio Tinto plc from 2009 to January 17, 2013. He served as an Art Director of Home Marketing Limited. He served as Managing Director of Findel Education at Findel plc. He served as Head of Rio Tinto Australia operations at Rio Tinto Ltd. Mr. Walsh served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Aluminium group of Rio Tinto Ltd. from 2001 to September 2004. He served a number of senior positions within the iron ore group - Vice President of Rio Tinto Iron Ore from 2000 to 2001 following the acquisition of North Limited and Managing Director of Hamersley Operations from 1997 to 2000 and the Managing Director of Hamersley Sales and Marketing from 1994 to 1997. Mr. Walsh has been the Chairman of WA chapter of Australian Business Arts Foundation since 2008. He serves as the Chairman of Rio Tinto Western Australia Future Fund. He joined Rio Tinto in 1991, following 20 years working in the Automotive Industry at General Motors and Nissan Australia. He serves as the Chairman of Western Australia Branch at The Australia Business Arts Foundation. He served as the Chairman of the Board of Black Swan Theatre Company until March 2013. He has been a Director of the Western Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry since 2005. He has been a Director of the Committee for Perth Ltd,. since 2006. Mr. Walsh has been an Executive Director at Rio Tinto PLC and Rio Tinto Ltd. since June 2009. He has been an Executive Director of Rio Tinto Group since June 4, 2009. He served as a Director of the Australian Mines and Metals Association, from 2001 to 2005 and Director of the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, from 2003 to 2005. He served as an Independent Director of Seven West Media Limited from December 11, 2008 to January 2013. He served as Director of Black Swan Theatre Company until March 2013. He is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply, a Councillor of the WA Chamber of Commerce. He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management and the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. Mr. Walsh holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Melbourne University and has completed a Fellowship Program at Kettering University in Michigan.
