Speaker Profile
Like many people in sports, Sandy Roberts has taken a pretty circuitous road to the top of his profession.
He spent his childhood on a sheep farm in South Australia, before working in Adelaide, Perth, Bendigo and overseas as he learned the media trade. He finally settled in Melbourne, joining Seven News as a presenter, sports analyst, host and commentator.
Today, Sandy has an enviable reputation as one of Australia's most knowledgeable and respected industry professionals. When he isn't at the world's largest sporting events, he escapes back to his farm just outside Melbourne.
Equally at home at the ground or in the studio, Sandy Roberts hosted Seven's tennis coverage of the Australian Open 2005, alongside Bruce McAvaney, Johanna Griggs and Matthew White.
Sandy Roberts has vast experience at major sports events. He has been involved with Olympic coverage since Moscow in 1980. More recently, he hosted the key overnight timeslot for the 2004 Athens Olympic Games and has commentated on more than 700 AFL games, previous Australian Open tennis tournaments, major golf tournaments and other top events around the world.
