Profile

Dr Cindy Pan is a medical practitioner, best-selling author and media personality. She has worked in general practice as well as sexual health and women’s medicine and she appears on television, lectures, speaks and writes about health, lifestyle and relationship issues. She is based in Sydney and has extensive experience and interest in a wide range of areas including preventive health, stress management, relationships, family issues, parenting, babies and kids, self-esteem, body image issues, motivation and sexual issues.

She is the author of ‘Pandora’s Box - lifting the lid on life’s little nasties’ (HarperCollins), a humorous book about health, relationships, sex and drugs, as well as ‘Playing Hard to Get’ (HarperCollins), a light-hearted look at courting and dating in the 21st century.
Her new book ‘Headstarts-100 tips for raising clever, confident, creative kids’ was written in collaboration with Vanessa Woods and published by Allen and Unwin.

Current Work

Cindy is an Ambassador for Plan International Australia and a founding coalition member for the ‘Because I am a Girl Coalition for Investment in Girls’, joining Cherie Blair, Hilary Clinton, Australian Governor General, Her Excellency Quentin Bryce, Nelson Mandela’s wife and women’s rights advocate Graca Machel and managing director of the World Bank, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala in raising awareness about the plight of girls in developing countries and the need to break the inter-generational poverty cycle and oppose exploitation of young women.
Cindy is also proud to be an Australia Day Ambassador, one of a select group of people who represent Australia on Australia Day, participating in a diverse range of community celebrations, including the delivery of an Australia Day Address.

Cindy is honoured to be a Butterfly Ambassador for the Life Changing Experiences Foundation. The Life Changing Experiences Foundation offers youth support programs and its primary initiative is the SISTER2sister Program, a 12 month mentoring program for teenage girls at risk of abuse and/or neglect which provides the girls with professional positive female role models to inspire and motivate them through a goal setting and achieving program to make a difference to their lives.

Previous Experience

Ambassadorship: Cindy has been privileged to be a Trustee on the Board of the Australian Museum from 2002 to 2010. She has been an Ausaid Ambassador and she has been the Official Ambassador for Chinese New Year for the City of Sydney since 2000. Cindy is a Patron for the Bonnie Babes Foundation, an Ambassador for the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Northcott Disability Services, Breast Cancer Network Australia and Heartkids Australia and she is an Ambassador mentor for Make-A-Wish Foundation. In 2010 Cindy was appointed as Medical Ambassador for the National Women’s Research Register, Register 4, an initiative of the National Breast Cancer Foundation
Media: She has written for newspapers and magazines in Australia and Asia, including a weekly health column in ‘Body and Soul’ for Sunday papers all over Australia and a regular column on relationships and sexual health in ‘Cleo’ magazine in Asia.

She has appeared on a whole host of television shows including ‘The Morning Show’ (click here to view a recent appearance), ‘Q and A’ (click here to view a recent appearance), ‘The Glasshouse’, ‘Sunrise’, ‘The Panel’, ‘Beauty and the Beast’, ‘The Super Debates’, ‘Mums and Bubs’, ‘Joker Poker’, ‘Hole in the Wall’ and ‘Children of the Dragon’ (an ABC/BBC miniseries). She was also the subject of a television documentary ‘The Ties that Bind’ in which she and her mother travelled to China in search of their roots.
