Since their formation in 1994, the Tap Dogs they have toured the world to great acclaim. They appeared in the opening ceremony of the 2000 Olympics, the 2002 Commonwealth Games and have released a film.
The show is a noisy, boisterous and athletic celebration of tap dancing. Every conceivable and inconceivable tool and platform is used. The Dogs dance on ladders, over computerised drums, upside down suspended from the ceiling, in plimsolls and occasionally even on the floor. Most of the performance is without music, just determined by the synchronised and syncopated rhythms of the steel plated shoes, enhanced by numerous microphones. Although there is nothing in terms of storyline and there are some lulls, the performance all in all holds together nicely, is never tedious and full of wit.
Don't expect Fred Astaire or Gene Kelly, but do expect a lot of Aussie-style humour, a lot of macho gestures, thumbs up, shouts and posturing. And expect one hour and a half of perspiring and deafening performance.
