Nic Mackay grew up in Melbourne, attended a highly-respected secondary school and university, and was on track to become a corporate lawyer. Then everything changed...
He helped to start Australia's largest youth-run organisation, enjoyed a (very) brief career as a rapper, consulted to the UK's best known theatre company, lived in one of the world's most dangerous cities, worked in partnership with an organisation founded by Nelson Mandela, spent 12 months as Managing Director of The Human Race, was invited to attend Oprah Winfrey's Leadership Academy, got married in a traditional Zulu ceremony, and then got married again in a modern Australian ceremony (yes, to the same woman).
Nic Mackay is a social entrepreneur who specialises in the use of music for social change.
He has overseen global projects in partnership with the likes of Nelson Mandela's 46664, and in 2007 co-founded Key Change Music with Dawn Mlotshwa, an Australian/South African non-profit organisation that uses music to create positive social change, with a focus on the education of young people.
Previously, Nic co-founded Australia's largest youth-run non-profit organisation - The Oaktree Foundation - which has raised over AU$5 million, supported projects in six countries, and helped mobilise billions in government aid to fight global poverty. He also helped to pioneer global citizenship and social action education as National Program Director of the High Resolves Initiative, reaching over 60,000 high school students throughout Australia.
A thought leader on the future of corporate social responsibility, Nic Mackay has consulted to some of world's largest companies. He is a highly sought-after speaker and facilitator, and was recently invited to present at Oprah Winfrey's Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa. He is renowned for his passion, humour, and occasionally brutal honesty!
Nic received the 2011 Australian Leadership Award for his outstanding contribution to shaping the future. He holds an Arts/Law degree from the University of Melbourne... just in case he changes his mind about becoming a lawyer.
