Retail is a fast-moving, dynamic and constantly evolving industry. If you’re in the business of retailing, represent the interests of groups of independent retailers under banner or franchise frameworks, or supply product, services, consultancy and solutions to retailers, it’s essential to regularly educate, update and inspire your management teams, key clients, stakeholders and account managers in relation to key international and national retail, consumer and marketing trends. This improves both internal competence, and enhances client and customer credibility as your team learns to understand the climate, appreciate the imperatives, and ‘speak the same language’.
But how can you get a focused, professional, independent and cost-effective perspective on key retail themes and trends as part of your training, education and development initiatives?
Steve Ogden-Barnes is an acknowledged expert commentator, speaker and educator in the retail, consumer and marketing fields. He's well qualified to provide key trend insights and global and national retail and consumer overviews through structured and relevant educational seminars, customised short courses, conference addresses, client briefings and strategy workshops.
He's also an advisor and consultant in relation to training and education strategy and resource development.
Prior to moving from the UK to Melbourne in 2002, Stephen's retail career spanned 15 years and included new store development, retail store management and management education and training.
He joined the Australian Centre for Retail Studies at Monash University in 2002, where he lectured in retail management and corporate strategy in the higher education sector. As a Program Director at the ACRS, he researched, developed and delivered retailed education programs, retail consultancy, seminars, lectures and conference addresses to high calibre client audiences both within Australia, and more widely in the Asia-Pacific region, focusing on global retail trends, store design, value retailing, retail innovation and differentiation, multi-channel retailing, retail strategy, retail management skills development and marketing decision-making.
Based on this experience, he founded his own consultation and training business to provide a niche service in the retail research and education fields.
Stephen gained his PhD at Deakin University, researching sales promotion effectiveness and marketing decision-making, specifically in relation to sales promotions. He's also a retail consultant at Deakin University, researching and developing Masters Degree in Retail programs.
