Steve Ogden Barnes is a retail marketing specialist with an extensive background in the profession and academia.
As Program Director of the Australian Centre for Retail Studies (ACRS), he has delivered retail education programs, retail consultancy, seminars, lectures and conference addresses both within Australia, and more widely in the Asia-Pacific region, focusing on global retail trends, retail innovation, multi-channel retailing, retail strategy and sales promotion.
He joined the ACRS at Monash University in 2002 from the UK, where he lectured in retail management and corporate strategy in the higher education sector. He is a member of The City of Melbourne Retail Advisory Board. Steve is sought after in the media and is a regular interviewee for The Age, The Australian, BRW, ABC Radio, 3AW and Today Tonight on retail and consumer issues.
Prior to these appointments, his retail career spanned 15 years and included new store development, retail store management and management development. Steve has completed extensive studies, including a Bachelors, Masters in Retail Management and is currently undertaking a Doctorate.
Steve is a highly experienced speaker. He has delivered numerous in-company retail and consumer trends insights for ACRS members and clients including KPMG (in Australia, Hong Kong and Thailand), ACNielsen, Greys Worldwide, Toyota, Telstra, Body Shop, NZRA, ICPDA, Gold Coast Government, Hudson Recruitment. Steve has many popular presentations, including Gearing for Success, where he guides businesses in maximizing marketing efforts through exploring different channels and opportunities.
