Janette Murray-Wakelin and Alan Murray have been actively following a raw vegan lifestyle for over 16 years after Janette was diagnosed with cancer and was told she had 6 months to live. As a result, the lifestyle choices she made (with the support of her partner Alan) set them both on a journey to optimal health.

Current work

She and her partner Alan are based in Far North Queensland, Australia, where they live a self-sufficient lifestyle offering personalised consultations and conscious living retreats, sharing hands-on what it means, and how simple and satisfying it is, to be healthy and happy living a Raw Vegan Conscious Lifestyle. Both are available to travel throughout Australia and worldwide for speaking events and to screen ‘RAW the Documentary’ film.

Previous experience

World Record: In 2013, they set out to inspire and motivate conscious lifestyle choices, promote kindness and compassion for all living beings and to raise environmental awareness for a sustainable future, raw vegan ultra-endurance runners Janette and Alan ran around Australia, 15,782 km, running 366 marathons (43 km) each in 366 days, no days off. On January 1, 2014, they acquired world acclaim by setting a new World Record as the only couple over the age of 60 fuelled entirely on raw fruit and veg, wearing barefoot shoes, to run 366 consecutive marathons while Running Raw Around Australia.

Media: Since finishing their record-breaking Run Around Australia, Janette and Alan have been inundated with global media interviews for TV, Radio, Podcasts, Newspapers, Magazines Blogs and online Summits. Invitations include speaking at schools, festivals, seminars and conferences throughout Australia and worldwide; the Toronto Raw Vegan Festival and the Toronto ideacity Conference in Canada, (similar to ‘TED Talks’), the Woodstock Fruit Festival in New York, USA National Public Radio New York, the World Vegan Summit in LA, the Raw Vegan Festival in Hong Kong, a six-city Speaking Tour of China and were invited to speak with Government Ministers and in schools in the Sultanate of Brunei.

Film: A cinematically produced film based on the Run, 'RAW -the Documentary' was released and Premiered in Australia early 2017; USA, Hong Kong, China, Indonesia and New Zealand during 2017 and will Premiere in Europe early 2018.

Walks: During the past 3 years, Janette and Alan have continued their active lifestyle by walking the Pilgrim Way through France and Spain, a total of 3500 km walking unaided with backpacks, completing the Walks fuelled only on raw plant-based food and wearing barefoot shoes. During their Tour of China in 2017, they ascended the largest Buddhist Mountain in China, walking up a total of 200,000 steps with an ascent of 3500 metres, again fuelled on raw food and wearing barefoot shoes.

'A Change of Pace, Walking Within'

Since Running around Australia, Janette and Alan have hiked a total of 2500 miles, walking along the Pilgrim Trails in France and Spain. The Pilgrim Way (France) and Camino (Spain) have been followed since the 13th century from points all over Europe to the Spanish town of Santiago de Compostela. With the change of pace from running to walking, they have enjoyed the experience of 'Walking Within', which they will share during their talk and visual presentation of their adventures along the Way. They will also outline their adventure of hiking on a Pilgrim Trail in China, a four-day hike on China’s tallest Buddha mountain, up 200,000 steps, an ascent of 3500m/10,000ft.

When Janette was diagnosed with highly aggressive breast cancer in 2001, she was ‘given’ 6 months to live. This challenge prompted her and Alan to make choices that changed their lives forever - from cancer to consecutive marathons.
