Bert Newton

Bert Newton's name is synonymous with the history of Australian television and has a well-deserved reputation as one of Australia's premier masters of ceremony. Since his beginnings in 1957, Bert, with his natural talents as a comedian and compere, has become an Australian entertainment institution. ?

Bert’s remarkable career has been recognised by the awarding of 18 Logies including 5 Gold Logies. In 1988 he was inducted into the Logie Hall of Fame. He holds the record for hosting the most number of Logie Awards.

Previous experience

Bert made his radio debut at age 11 on 3XY and was a full time announcer there by the time he was 15 years old. He has received three Pater Awards for his radio work and in 1982 was awarded the inaugural Grand Pater.

From the early 60’s to early 90’s Bert was the face of night time TV, The Late Show, In Melbourne Tonight, The Don Lane Show, New Faces, The Ford Superquiz, The Bert Newton Show, Tonight with Bert Newton.

For 14 years Bert was the host of morning television on Channel 10’s ‘Good Morning Australia’.

Bert returned to the Nine Network in 2006 where he remains today, hosting prime time TV shows Bert’s Family Feud, 20 to 1, and What a Year.

Awards:

Bert received an MBE from Queen Elizabeth II in 1979 and in 2006 he was made a Member of the Order of Australia for service to the entertainment industry as a presenter, actor, comedian, and through support for a range of medical research and charitable organisations.

Bert’s is also at home on the Stage, performing lead roles in renowned Musicals, including Beauty and The Beast, The Producers, Sound of Music, Wicked, Annie, Grease the Musical and The Rocky Horror.
