Glenn
Archer

Dual premiership-winning AFL great.

Profile

A true legend of the game, Archer's off-field endeavours, combined with his unquestionable playing record, re-affirms all that is great about Australian Rules Football.

Previous experience

AFL: Glenn Archer played his last AFL match at the end of the 2007 season, but his accomplishments, both on the field and off, will ensure that he is remembered long after.

Award: That year he played his 300th game in Round 13 and was awarded the Players' Choice Shinboner, the player most epitomising the heart and soul of the Kangaroos Football Club – beating 911 other Kangaroos players for the honour.

Grand Final: A fearless defender who intimidated opponents and inspired team-mates, Archer was a vital member of the Kangaroos premiership sides in 1996 and 1999. His Norm Smith medal-winning performance in the 1996 Grand Final, where he had the unenviable task of standing in front of Sydney full-forward Tony Lockett, sums up his career. Archer played brave, uncompromising football, often whilst injured and was constantly willing to sacrifice his game for the betterment of his team.

Charity: A tireless worker, he was recognised not only for his on-field brilliance, but also for a throng of selfless charity-based events to which he has given his time.
