Previous experience

Dr Gawler, a veterinarian with a Masters in Counselling, is one of Australia's best known, long term cancer survivors and advocates of a healthy lifestyle. His story offers hope and inspiration to people around the world. The self-help techniques he developed have helped many to convert hope into sustained health and peace of mind.

Ian co-developed the world's first lifestyle-based self-help programs for people with cancer in 1981, and for multiple sclerosis in 2002. He helped to found the Gawler Foundation and convened Mind, Immunity and Health, the first specific mind-body medicine conference for health practitioners in Australia.

Ian studied meditation with Dr Ainslie Meares, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Sogyal Rinpoche as well as other leading Buddhist, Indian, Zen, Christian and other western meditation masters. He is a long-term student of Sogyal Rinpoche, author of The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying and can speak with authority on the relevance of Buddhist psychology in our modern, busy world.

Author:

Ian is the author of several international best-selling books, the latest being The Mind that Changes Everything. He has edited seven books on mind-body medicine and his classic, You Can Conquer Cancer, has been translated into 11 languages and sold over 250,000 copies.

In 1987 Ian Gawler was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for his services to the community.
