The value of patience and incremental development
Jake Lever captained Vic Metro at under-18 level before rupturing his ACL at AIS-AFL Academy training, ruling him out of his entire draft-year season.
Despite the setback, he was drafted by Adelaide with pick 14 in 2014, debuting in 2015 and earning a Rising Star nomination. After three seasons at the Crows, including selection in the 2017 All-Australian squad, he was traded to Melbourne, where he became a premiership player and All-Australian in 2021. Lever is regarded as one of the competition's best intercept defenders, renowned for his ability to read the play.
