Advanced Sports & Performance Dietitian

  • Engage

Jess Spendlove will show you how good you can feel and function with easy-to-implement tips, tools and frameworks and the power of nutrition to elevate your performance in sport and life.

Jess Spendlove’s journey to becoming one of the most experienced and respected dietitians in Australia began nearly 25 years ago when she was spending up to four hours in the pool each day as an amateur swimmer.

Through her swimming, Jess was exposed to elite environments and high performing people from a young age. These experiences were indicative of the types of environments she would come to thrive in and the calibre of clients she was destined to work with. Her particular interest in performance nutrition was sparked when she saw a Sports Dietitian in her early teens to make sure she was adequately fuelling for sport, puberty and school.

That’s when Jess quickly set her sights on one career path. She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition from the University of Wollongong in 2007 and a Masters of Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Sydney in 2010. After spending the first few years working in a hospital and gaining any experience she could in professional sport, her first break came in 2013 with the Cronulla Sharks. Over the next decade, Jess would go on to work with most professional sporting codes in the country, helping teams make maiden grand finals, win maiden premierships and championships; and working with Olympic athletes, large corporations and respected brands. This has resulted in the expert status she holds within her profession and industry.

Current Work

As a Performance Dietitian, Jess takes her key learnings from working with some of the country's best athletes and tailors them to a range of high-performing environments and people so they can reap the benefits of these proven tips, tools and frameworks.

Jess loves working with corporates, active adolescents, athletes, brands and the media, speaking to a range of audiences on the power of nutrition and wellbeing when it comes to elevating performance in sport and life. She particularly enjoys working with brands that align with her personal philosophy that food should be nutritious, delicious and easy to prepare and access, which is why she is currently an ambassador for YoPRO and consults to Coles on their new PerFORM range. Jess regularly provides expert comments in the media, has an engaged social media following and in 2021 hosted the number one health and wellbeing podcast My Millennial Health, which will return later this year.

Jess is about to release her signature membership program EAT LIKE THE ELITE, which will showcase all her personal and professional experience to date. She is on a mission to make credible performance nutrition information easy to access and implement for the masses.

Jess understands the many parallels between athletic and corporate environments and is passionate about educating the masses on tips, tools and frameworks that can elevate their performance in sport and life.

Jess Spendlove was an absolute pleasure to work with. Cobram Estate worked with Jess Spendlove to develop evidence-based, consumer-friendly social media content and to host a social media event. Jess was professional, genuine, detailed, organised, and aligned with the brand and values of Cobram Estate and evidence-based. Throughout the project from planning through to execution, Jess was open, flexible, and adaptable and clearly demonstrated her skills as experienced health and nutrition expert and communicators. Cobram Estate would be delighted to recommend Jess Spendlove to others. Cobram Estate

Jess was responsible for the leadership, design and delivery of the most comprehensive sports nutrition program I’ve ever seen in world sport. Her programs were always evidence-based, easy to implement and cost-effective. More importantly, though, she was able to work with numerous collaborators to ensure that effective dietary habits were established with all the athletes, habits that will last them for the rest of their lives.

GWS Giants

The nutrition program that Jess Spendlove delivered to the Cronulla Sharks NRL team was of the highest standard I have seen in my time in professional sport. Whilst based on sound nutritional principles and delivered in manner that was both engaging and easy for athletes to understand, Jess always found a way to appeal every individual within a very diverse playing group. Of particular note, was her innovative way of dealing with the nutritional needs of injured athletes.
