Lachie
Samuel Mariu

Help your people stay calm under pressure, make better decisions, and show up with purpose—in work, life and leadership.

Helping people make better decisions—in work, life, and leadership.

Profile

When stress takes over, people don’t think clearly. They react, shut down, or avoid—and performance suffers.

That’s why Lachie created The Circuit Breaker Session™—a powerful experience based on neuroscience and lived experience. It helps people understand what’s really driving their stress, and gives them tools to reset their nervous system, improve mental health, and shift behaviour in real time.

Lachie built his name working with Australia’s biggest mining companies—guiding high-pressure teams through the emotional toll of remote work, long hours, and isolation.

But his story runs far deeper than his qualifications.

He’s faced childhood abuse, depression, and addiction. At 28, he found out the daughter he’d raised wasn’t biologically his—and gained 45kg trying to numb the pain he didn’t know how to process.

Eventually, the emotional weight became physical. Lachie suffered strokes, heart problems, and brain bleeds that left him unable to see, walk, speak, or even remember the names of his own family.

He had to rebuild from nothing.

That’s why he blends science with story—to give people practical tools and powerful perspectives.

Today, he helps teams and leaders break their own circuits—the emotional, mental, and behavioural patterns that take over under pressure and quietly erode culture, clarity, and connection.

This isn’t a motivational hype talk. It’s a practical, science-based shift—delivered by someone who’s walked it.

In this keynote, your people will learn:

What stress really does to the brain, body, and behaviour

How to interrupt emotional overwhelm in under 2 minutes

Simple tools to reset—and lead with clarity and control

If your people are carrying stress, pressure, or personal baggage—it’s already impacting how they show up.

This session helps them take back control—for themselves and those they love, lead, and work with.

Talking Points

The Circuit Breaker Session™

The Circuit Breaker Session™ is a neuroscience-based keynote designed to help your people reset their nervous system, interrupt stress responses in real time, and take ownership of how they think, feel, and act under pressure.

This isn’t a motivational talk.
It’s a practical, lived-experience-driven session that blends nervous system regulation, mental health awareness, and emotional intelligence—with tools your people will use straight away.

In this keynote, attendees will learn how to:

Stay calm under pressure and regulate emotional overwhelm in under two minutes

Understand what’s driving their reactions—and how to change them

Build self-awareness, resilience, and stronger behavioural control

Shift out of fight, flight, or freeze—and into clarity and conscious action

Lead themselves better—for the people they love, lead, and work with

When individuals break their internal circuits—the patterns of shutdown, burnout, and lashing out—your culture transforms.

This session gives them the tools to do it.

Mastering the Switch: Balancing work and life

This isn’t about switching off—it’s about switching well.

In high-pressure environments, work doesn’t always stay at work. And life outside the office doesn’t pause at the door. The real challenge isn’t balance—it’s transition.

In Mastering the Switch, Lachie Samuel breaks down why so many professionals feel emotionally drained, reactive, or disconnected. The problem isn’t a lack of discipline. It’s a nervous system stuck in stress mode.

This neuroscience-based keynote equips your people with practical tools to:

Shift from work-mode to home-mode (and back) without bringing the tension with them

Regulate their nervous system in real time—not after burnout

Communicate more clearly—with colleagues and loved ones

Set boundaries without guilt or conflict

Stay present under pressure, even when emotions are high

When your people know how to switch roles with intention and composure, everything improves—performance, connection, and the quality of life both at work and at home.

New Starter Roadmap™

New hires don’t just learn your culture—they shape it.

Every person who joins your team brings more than skills. They bring habits, stress patterns, and expectations shaped by their past. Without the tools to lead themselves, they can’t contribute to—or protect—your culture when pressure hits.

The New Starter Roadmap™ is a neuroscience-based session for new hires and early-career staff, designed to build behavioural foundations that last.

In this keynote or workshop, your new team members will learn to:

Regulate stress and calm their nervous system

Align with your culture by starting with their own values

Communicate with clarity and emotional intelligence

Set boundaries and uphold shared expectations

Build habits that support consistency, contribution, and resilience

This isn’t soft skills training.
It’s a blueprint for stability, ownership, and self-leadership—because culture starts within.
Key takeaway: Psychologically safe leadership can be as simple as helping your people meet their human needs, if you understand how to leverage the brain.

I loved the approach and have to say it was one of the best mental wellbeing workshops, actually one of the best workshops I've had on site so far. I really appreciate you sharing your story with us Lachie.

Lachie Samuel was engaged for our recent regional Safety and Health representatives forum, held in Perth. Lachie delivered a highly relevant and engaging seminar on mental health and ‘breaking the stress circuit’ that was both highly relevant and very well received by the audience. The Safety and Health Representatives reported thoroughly enjoying the seminar and gaining valuable insights to take back to their teams, as a person with lived experience of being a FIFO and resources sector work, Lachie was able to communicate and engage with the audience on a personal level, leaving a lasting impact.

In September 2022 we held the GTM/Para Peer Support Forum here in Tom Price. As the Peer Support Coordinator across GTM, I was hopeful to deliver an impactful and meaningful session to raise awareness, show support and educate our peer supporters across the divisions. We were lucky enough to secure Lachie to present during the day, which without a doubt was a raging success. Engaging Lachie was seamless, his accuracy and communication was notable. The session Lachie delivered was beyond our expectations, the response from the personnel within the room was profound with a number of individuals addressing myself post forum to express their gratitude they were able to listen to Lachie’s story and messages around mental health in the mining industry. As per the new legislation showcasing a focus around psychosocial hazards/risk I believe it is more imperative than ever that we bring an ongoing spotlight to the wellbeing and mental health of our personnel. Lachie’s first hand experiences, genuine care and courage to share his story supports our values of care, curiosity and courage. I would not hesitate to engage Lachie ongoing to bring his messages and assist us in continuing to show our dedication to supporting a mentally healthy workplace.

I had the pleasure of engaging Lachie to present his ‘Breaking the Stress Circuit’ session at a West Pilbara Peer Support Forum followed by another session with our Paraburdoo Operations Teams at Eastern Ranges. To state that Lachie is brave does not do the man justice. He lays out the traumatic events of his childhood with brutal honesty and takes you on his journey where those experiences manifest themselves in the choices he made as a man. As are raw and confronting as the sessions are they are ultimately insightful and informative as Lachie delves into how the brain functions, particularly in relation to trauma and stress. He also provides practical tools that harness the body to control the mind and, as per the session’ title, ‘break the stress circuit’. As an advocate of facing your demons, taking ownership of your mistakes and emerging a better human being Lachie shines a light for us all to follow.

Lachie's delivery was first class. It was confronting and real. The ability to not only bring people into the discussion but provide tools to help with peoples own individual struggles was very unique. The end of our session with Lachie with a day of presentations/presenters it was a clear winner. Get Lachie into your teams and workplaces. He will not disappoint.
