With almost 20 years television experience, well-respected journalist Melissa Downes is Channel Nine Queensland's Nine News weekday presenter, working alongside Andrew Lofthouse.

Previous experience

Bulletin: Prior to her appointment to the weekday news desk in November 2008, Downes fronted the Nine News weekend bulletin for two years.

Nine: Since joining Channel Nine Queensland in December 2001, Downes has also hosted and reported for the top-rating local afternoon programs Extra, Saturday Extra, Gold Coast Weekend and Saturday Afternoon.

Host: Downes has also hosted numerous events from small charity functions to the internationally televised Concourse D'Elegance and the RAQ Australian Design Awards, an event she hosted for four consecutive years.

Education: Born and raised in Brisbane, Downes graduated from Somerville House in 1988, and completed an Arts Journalism degree at the University of Queensland soon after.

Personal: Downes is married to DJ Wendt, manager of music group The Ten Tenors. In October 2009, they welcomed their first child, Dee Dee with the little girl already becoming a team-player, being born at nine minutes to nine, in 2009. In April 2012, the proud parents welcomed their second daughter, Anja Maree.
