Australia's Leading Voice on Burnout, Wellbeing & Sustainable Performance

He/Him

Profile

Nick Gorman spent 22 years as a Managing Director and trader across some of the world's most high-pressure financial institutions — Citibank, Macquarie, and Bank of America among them. But behind the seniority and the success, burnout was quietly taking hold. Left unaddressed for years, it deepened into depression and brought his banking career to an abrupt end.

That experience became the foundation for everything Nick does today.

Since founding Equilibrium at Work in 2018, Nick has become one of Australia's most compelling voices on burnout and workplace wellbeing. With over 2,000 coaching sessions behind him and a keynote stage that continues to grow, he brings something rare to every room he walks into — the credibility of someone who has genuinely been there.

His signature keynote equips individuals with practical tools to navigate burnout, empowers organisations to embed wellbeing into their culture, and gives leaders the mindset and strategies to drive meaningful, lasting change.

His work and story have been featured in The Australian Financial Review, The Australian, Disrupt Radio, Challengers that Change Us Podcast, and the Do Landers Podcast to name a few.

Burnout

Most people don't realise they're burning out until they're already running on empty. Drawing on his own lived experience and years of working with corporate audiences, Nick cuts through the noise to explain what burnout actually is, why high performers are often the last to see it coming, and how to spot the warning signs before the cost becomes too great. The centrepiece of this session is a powerful self-audit tool that Nick guides audiences through in real time — giving every person in the room an honest, confronting snapshot of where they currently sit and the practical steps they can take straight away.

Wellbeing Self reflection

Drawing on real experience and practical tools developed across hundreds of client sessions, Nick helps audiences identify where their balance has broken down, why it keeps happening, and exactly what to do about it.

Feedback
We were delighted to have Nick join us at Macquarie Equities, his old stomping ground, to talk to our staff about his life experience and learnings. The discussion explored the challenge of managing wellbeing in market facing roles and went the extra step towards providing practical tips relating to finding balance in our personal and professional lives. Our team gained insight into conditions like burnout and anxiety, a concept that is front of mind for more people that we may realise. We also touched on the role each of us can play in supporting others. This session was ultimately one of the more impactful we have had here at Macquarie Equities. The feedback from our people has been overwhelmingly positive. Practical, honest, down to earth. Highly recommend. Macquarie Bank

Nick delivered an impassioned, important talk to our team. His session helps de-stigmatise the prevalent mental health challenges at work and home and provided great tips on dealing with and improving our own headspace. Detailing his own journey brought the presentation to life and makes the whole session incredibly relatable. We recommend Nick wholeheartedly as a way of educating and hopefully improving the lives of working professionals.

So enriching to have Nick call on our office recently to share his experiences, his observations and suggestions in the area of mental well-being. Delivered through the aperture of a financial markets practitioner who didn’t realise he had an issue until there was one, his narrative is instantly relatable, and his guidance left our group with plenty to think about. The journey to improved mental health in the workplace is an important one and made a little easier with Nick’s insights and engaging manner.

I would certainly recommend Nick’s unique perspective on this topic as very relevant and informative whilst being delivered in a truly engaging way. The discussion was extremely well received, and we look forward to Nick’s next instalment at some stage.
