Leadership: It’s Child’s Play

  • Exclusive

Passionate about people; about communication, empowerment & impact.

Profile

Exclusive in Australia, New Zealand and the United States.

Richard Gerver came to prominence when, as a headteacher, he turned around a failing school in the UK in under two years, winning plaudits around the world. He was once described in the UK National Press as ‘The Walt Disney of The Classroom.’

His work has been featured in his own books and multiple works by Sir Ken Robinson, who said of him, "Richard Gerver is one of the clearest and most passionate voices for radical change in education and business... In his compelling presentations and books, he now takes his powerful message of hope and possibility to educators, policymakers and business leaders around the world. It's a message that has to be heard."

It also led to him winning many awards from the likes of the UK Government and UNESCO.

In 2008, partly because of the demands on his time to share his expertise, not only within the education community but with diverse organisations around the world, who were struggling with the uncertainty and change caused partly by the global financial crisis, Richard left education to work as a professional speaker and author. Over the last decade and a half, he has transcended his first career and become widely regarded, through his experiences, writing and speaking, as one of the most influential experts on change and human leadership in the world.

His story and insights are unique; there are no other speakers in the world who had a career as a primary school teacher and translated that knowledge and experience so powerfully as to have spoken on the largest stages and for some of the world’s most influential organisations.

Over that time, he has worked with iconic organisations and people from Google and Microsoft to Deloitte and Visa, from Sport England to GSK. He has worked with and interviewed Barack Obama, The Dalai Lama, Steve Wozniak and Eric Schmidt.

He has spoken to global audiences in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, China, Russia, The UAE, Mexico, Chile, Panama, Costa Rica, Colombia, Brazil and Spain.

He has two hugely successful courses available on LinkedIn Learning that were published in 2020:

Overcoming Complexity

Leading a Culture of Mental Toughness.

The courses are available in multiple languages including; Spanish, Arabic, Japanese, French and German.

His four bestselling books are:

Change; Learn to Love it Learn to Lead it

Seth Godin said of it:

“Filled with memorable stories and jammed with useful, actionable approaches to dealing with and profiting from change.”

Simple Thinking: How to remove the complexity from life and work

Nick Raphael, President of Capitol Records said of it:

“…Great leaders are almost always simplifiers – Simple Thinking helps you search for ways to simplify things so you too can become a great leader.”

Creating Tomorrow’s Schools Today

Professor Guy Claxton, creator of Building Learning Power said of it:

“There is battle for the soul of education going on. Who wins matters terribly. Read Gerver’s beautifully written book, see what’s at stake and come down on the right side.”

Education, A Manifesto for Change

Dame Alison Peacock, CEO of The Chartered College of Teaching said of it:

“In this powerful book, Gerver calls for a collaborative vision for education that will prepare society to “thrive in uncertainty”. He shares sharp insight, achieved through school leadership, uniquely combined with global experience of working with eminent leaders throughout industry.”

He has extensive experience of working at board level in the corporate, public, and charitable sectors.

Why does change feel so exhausting and why do we resist it? How can we nurture and develop an organisational culture which embraces change and encourages collaboration? In this session, Richard examines the challenges associated with change and how risk aversion can stifle individuals and organisations.

Simple Thinking

In Simple Thinking Richard brings his pragmatic, insightful and people-centric approach to success; what it is and how we can achieve it. He offers the strategies, and tools, individuals need to succeed both individually and as part of an organisation. Based on the research in his book, Simple Thinking, Richard will share with participants the mindsets, behaviours and attributes needed to aim higher and achieve more

Purpose

What do people and organisations that have enjoyed sustained success have in common? A sense of purpose. In this session, Richard explores how communication, skills development, leadership, and empowerment must be developed and nurtured to encourage a genuine sense of purpose.

Mental Toughness

Using his unique insights into human development, Richard has translated his work and experience from schools to high performing corporate environments where the ability to risk, learn and develop are vital. Richard argues that it is often the most naturally gifted individuals who struggle with resilience, and that having the confidence to fail and overcome adversity is critical if we are to get the best out of ourselves and our people.
