Tom McDonald was drafted by Melbourne with pick 53 in 2010 and went on to play 256 games in a one-club career spanning 16 seasons.
A rare talent able to play at the elite level in both key defence and at full-forward, he led Melbourne's goalkicking in 2018 with 53 majors before returning to defence in the back half of his career. McDonald was a key figure in Melbourne's drought-breaking 2021 premiership, won from inside the AFL's WA COVID hub, and was made a life member of the club in 2020.
Off the field, Tom is a father of five who speaks openly about navigating fatherhood alongside an elite AFL career, and once spent a full year on a carnivore diet while playing, as part of his ongoing focus on nutrition, performance and recovery. He announced his retirement at the end of the 2026 season, closing out his career as a one-club Demon.
