Nikki Bart and her mother Cheryl Bart are the first-ever mother-daughter team to summit the world's tallest mountain, Mt Everest. Upon reaching the top, they also became the first mother-daughter duo to complete the Seven Summits; climbing the highest peak of every continent in the world. In 2008, they were the recipients of the Australian Geographic Spirit of Adventure Award.
Nikki is also a doctor, and a recipient of the prestigious Sir John Monash Scholarship Award. This is the Australian equivalent of a Rhodes scholarship and aims to foster the next generation of Australian leaders. Nikki intends on using this scholarship to study hypoxia, or oxygen deprivation with the view to understanding the process of shock in intensive care and emergency patients. She will be working with the Centre for Altitude, Space and Extreme Environment Medicine and recieve her degree from Oxford University. Over the past few years Nikki has been involved in numerous developing world health initiatives, and has volunteered in Guatamala and Costa Rica as well as rural Australia. She is the past co-chairman of the Medical Student Aid Project, which donates medical equipment and pharmaceuticals to developing world hospitals.
Nikki's inspirational story and vision for the future of medicine is a fantastic addition to any event- from corporate functions to school programs.
