Craig
Monk

Two-time America's Cup winner with Team New Zealand.

Profile

Craig is a popular speaker who can draw on his experiences as a crew member, professional athlete and team manager to deliver messages around teamwork, leadership, peak performance, and health.

Current work

Monk is still a prominent team member for Artemis - a crew member as well as Team Manager. He has one of the longest careers in Sailing - due to his diverse skills as both an athlete and manager.

Previous experience

Victories: Craig Monk was a member of the victorious Team New Zealand crew which successfully defended the America's Cup in Auckland, New Zealand in 2000. As a grinder, Craig's role is particularly strenuous and necessitated a rigorous training and fitness programme to sustain the relentless grinding work required during the numerous tacks of an America's Cup race.

Craig was the Sailing Team manager of BMW Oracle Racing and completed a four year campaign which included sailing in every race of the Louis Vuitton Cup in Valencia.

Awards: He has a string of sporting achievements to his name. He was a grinder on board the victorious 'Black Magic' which won the America's Cup in San Diego in 1995; he is a double Olympian, including an Olympic Bronze Medal in Barcelona in 1992 (Finn Class); he is a double Goodwill Games representative 1990-94, including New Zealand's first and only Goodwill Games Gold Medal in St Petersberg, Russia in 1994.

Craig has won over 70 national and international sailing titles, including a record eight consecutive National titles (Finn Class). In 1990 he was the TVNZ Young Achiever of the Year and in 1995 was in the Sporting Team of the Year and a recipient of the New Zealand Government Medal of Outstanding Achievement.
