Damian Madden is a leadership coach, strategist and speaker who helps leaders and executives see familiar challenges from a different perspective and act on what they discover.
Across more than two decades, Damian has worked at the intersection of leadership, brand/marketing, technology, creativity, customer experience and transformation, helping organisations including Adidas, Tesla, Prada, Ralph Lauren, Uniqlo, BMW, Pernod Ricard and The Woolmark Company challenge established thinking and create meaningful change.
Today, his work focuses on one deceptively simple idea: we don't always need more information; sometimes we need a different perspective.
This has become increasingly important as leaders navigate AI and one of the fastest periods of technological and cultural change in modern business. Damian brings more than a decade of applied, in market commercial experience with AI and emerging technology to the conversation. He currently advises several universities on their AI programs and has spoken about AI around the world (including at SXSW and at The World Knowledge Forum in Seoul) and works with organisations on the practical implications of AI for strategy, leadership, creativity and customer experience. His work exploring the intersection of artificial intelligence and art brings a provocative human dimension to a subject too often dominated by technology.
Rather than simply predicting what comes next, Damian challenges businesses to examine the assumptions shaping how they think today. What got you here won't necessarily get you there. What are you no longer questioning? Where has success made you cautious? What are you optimising that no longer matters? And in a world where machines can increasingly provide the answers, what becomes uniquely valuable about human judgement, curiosity and attention?
Through keynotes, workshops and coaching, Damian gives leaders and teams practical ways to step outside habitual thinking, reconnect with curiosity and navigate change with greater clarity and intention.
He has delivered keynotes across eight countries and is a two-time Australian Customer Experience Leader of the Year. His work combines the commercial experience of someone who has led transformation inside major organisations with the curiosity of a strategist, coach and lifelong observer of how people behave.
Talking Points
Update Your Human Operating System
How to keep evolving when the world around you won't stop changingUpdate Your Human Operating System
We constantly update the technology around us, but rarely stop to update the assumptions, habits and behaviours running us.
Drawing on his work as a leadership coach and more than two decades leading change, Damian explores why the thinking that created our success can eventually become the thing holding us back. He challenges leaders to examine where experience has become assumption, success has reduced risk tolerance and familiarity has replaced curiosity.
A keynote about staying adaptable, questioning the version of yourself that got you here, and developing the courage to keep becoming who you need to be next.
Best for: Leadership, Change, High performance, Executive teams
What Are You Really Selling?
How the world's best businesses make themselves matterWhat Are You Really Selling?
Products are increasingly easy to copy. Technology becomes ubiquitous. Convenience becomes expected. So what makes one business matter more than another?
Drawing on more than two decades creating experiences for brands including Adidas, Tesla, Prada, BMW and Pernod Ricard, Damian explores what best-in-class businesses understand about modern consumers through three deceptively simple questions:
What kind of world are you creating?
What are people really taking home?
Who will be different because you were here?
Because people aren't simply buying products and services. They're buying identity, belonging, memory, transformation and a different version of themselves.
This is a keynote about moving beyond customer experience to meaning and building businesses people don't simply transact with, but care about.
Best for: Customer experience, Marketing, Retail, Brand, Consumer businesses
AI Won't Transform Your Business. You Will.
Why the biggest barriers to AI transformation aren't technologicalAI Won't Transform Your Business. You Will.
Every organisation is asking where it can use AI. But layering powerful new technology onto yesterday's processes, structures and assumptions doesn't create transformation, it often just allows businesses to do the wrong things faster.
Drawing on more than a decade of applied AI experience and extensive transformation work, Damian explores the danger of Experience Waste at machine speed and challenges leaders to rethink the organisation before automating it.
What should AI make faster? What should it make possible? What shouldn't exist anymore? And where should humans remain deliberately in the loop?
Because the real opportunity presented by AI isn't simply to optimise the business you already have. It's to reconsider the business you could become.
Best for: AI, Business transformation, Leadership, Innovation, Future of work
Meaning and the Machine
What matters when machines can do almost everything?Meaning and the Machine
For decades, we've valued people for what they know and what they can produce. What happens when machines can know more, create faster and perform increasingly sophisticated parts of our jobs?
Drawing on Damian's work across AI, creativity and art, this provocative keynote moves beyond productivity and asks a much bigger question: what becomes more valuable when intelligence is no longer scarce?
In what is part art installation, part futuristic sci-fi story, Damian interacts on stage with an AI intelligence from the future, the two exploring why curiosity, judgement, taste, empathy, imagination, attention and our ability to create meaning become more, not less, valuable today.
The opportunity isn't to compete with machines at being machines. It's to become better at being human.
Best for: AI, Future of work, Leadership, Creativity, Culture
The Future Is Built Together
What becomes possible when people, partners and technology create togetherThe Future Is Built Together
The future won't be built by humans or machines. It will emerge from what becomes possible when customers, employees, partners, technology and AI work together.
As technology makes organisations faster, smarter and increasingly automated, Damian explores why connection, collaboration and meaning become more valuable, not less.
Drawing on two decades across technology, innovation and customer experience, this keynote challenges organisations to move beyond building for people towards building with them, and to rethink the role AI and emerging technology can play in that process.
Because the organisations that shape what's next won't necessarily be those with the best ideas internally. They'll be the ones best able to bring different people, perspectives and technologies together.
Best for: Collaboration, Partnerships, Innovation, AI, Culture
The Difference Between Looking and Seeing
How leaders find opportunities hiding in plain sightThe Difference Between Looking and Seeing
We have more data, research and information than any generation of leaders before us. So why do we still miss what's right in front of us?
Damian explores why experience, expertise and familiarity can make individuals and organisations blind to changing customers, emerging opportunities and their own assumptions.
Through unexpected stories spanning business, art, psychology and everyday life, he shows leaders how to rediscover curiosity, step outside habitual thinking and see familiar problems from entirely different perspectives.
Because sometimes the biggest opportunities aren't hidden. We've simply stopped noticing them.
Best for: Innovation, Creativity, Leadership, Strategy
The Transformation Paradox
Why the things that made you successful can stop you becoming what's nextThe Transformation Paradox
Every successful organisation faces the same paradox: the systems, behaviours, products and assumptions responsible for today's success can become the greatest barriers to tomorrow's.
Damian has spent more than two decades working inside transformation, helping challenge established thinking across industries spanning luxury, retail, technology, entertainment, fashion and wine. From changing perceptions of Australian wool to helping reinvent how a century-old wine category connected with a new generation, his career has repeatedly involved asking organisations to reconsider things they once regarded as true.
Now AI is accelerating that challenge.
This keynote explores why genuine transformation rarely starts with technology, restructures or another strategy document. It starts with the willingness to question what made you successful in the first place.
Damian challenges leaders to ask:
What are we protecting because it still matters?
What are we protecting simply because it worked before?
And what would we build today if none of it existed yet?
Transformation isn't about predicting the future. It's about becoming capable of responding to it.
Best for: Strategy, Transformation, Executive leadership, Innovation, AI
