Gastronomic guru.

Gabriel Gaté has that rare combination: he learned his craft from some of the great master chefs of France; he knows the reality of being a family cook with too little time; and he communicates with dazzling success both the joy of cooking and how to make tasty food that is simple, easy and, above all, achievable.

Gabriel was born in France in the Loire Valley in 1955 in a small village where his father grew all the family's vegetables and made the family wine. He first learned to cook from his grandmother and mother and later trained as a chef in some of the best restaurants in France.

He met his Australian wife, Angie, when she was studying French at the Sorbonne and they moved to Australia in 1977.

Previous experience

Gabriel has written twenty four cookbooks and presented cookery on television for forty years.

Some of his television credits include 'The Good Food Show ABC and 'What's Cooking Ch9 . For more than twelve years he presented a weekly cooking segment with Bert Newton on 'Good Morning Australia'.

In the last 14 years Gabriel has produced and presented ‘Taste le Tour with Gabriel Gaté’, a series of gourmet segments on French food and wine shown nationally on SBS television during the Tour de France bicycle race in July each year.

Gabriel loves to help people discover the joys of cooking and become better cooks.

Gabriel was an absolute delight to work with and made my job very easy. He won the hearts of Inverell without a doubt and I was sorry when it was time for him to leave. Gabriel's cooking sessions were very popular and his book signings were well supported; he really made "Inverell on Display" a very special event. Inverell Shire Council

Gabriel was warm, engaging, spent three times as much time that was allocated for him at the function, and was just generally a pleasure to deal with.

Greater Shepparton City Council

We were very impressed with Gabriel's professionalism and very approachable nature. He was a joy to listen too and the audience loved his demostrations. He was funny, entertaining and provided excellent cooking advice.
