Gillian Cosgriff is a singer, writer, actor, composer, musician, and comedian who graduated from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) in 2010 with a Bachelor of Music Theatre. Her 2023 solo show, Actually, Good, garnered rave reviews at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and won the awards for Most Outstanding Show, and the Golden Gibbo (for Best Independent Show).
Gillian’s theatre credits include Harry Potter And The Cursed Child (Sonia Friedman Productions, Colin Callender and Harry Potter Theatrical Productions); Come Rain Or Come Shine (Melbourne Theatre Company); Godspell (Hayes Theatre Company); Vivid White (Melbourne Theatre Company); Company (Watch This); and Loving Repeating (Vic Theatre Company). Her television credits include Offspring, Get Krack!n, Aunty Donna’s Coffee Café, The (2024) Gala, Spicks and Specks, Question Everything, Thank God You’re Here, and Fisk.
Gillian has toured extensively with her solo shows as a comedian and cabaret performer, most notably at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and Soho Theatre in London. In 2020 she directed Michelle Brasier’s show Average Bear, which was nominated for Best Show at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and has since gone on to play in Edinburgh, London, New York, and LA, and was released as a filmed special released on Paramount Plus.
In 2018, Gillian co-wrote the opera Lorelei for Victorian Opera with Casey Bennetto and Julian Langdon, which premiered at the Malthouse Theatre before touring to Opera Queensland and returning to the Palais Theatre in Melbourne for an encore season. In 2023 she presented her new musical-existential-rom-com The Fig Tree, following an initial development showing at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, and a concert showing at the Hayes Theatre’s Festival of New Work. Gillian can currently be seen touring a new festival offering of Fresh New Worries too!
