The World's Greatest 1500m Swimmer


The man affectionately known as "The Machine" has won the hearts of many around the world with his courageous swims and extraordinary talent. A true sporting icon in Australia, Grant Hackett never fails to please his fans.

One that will live in the minds of many was his incredible 1500m swim in Athens. Swimming with a collapsed lung, Grant successfully defended his Olympic title after which he gingerly climbed upon the starting blocks and triumphantly raised his arms in the air to thunderous applause.

He has reigned as an Olympic, World, Pan Pacific, Commonwealth and Australian champion for lengthy periods. He has also held world records in the short and long course events. His successes over several years, culminated in numerous medals, including two podium positions at the 2008 Games in Beijing.

Grant is a level headed, articulate, and extremely talented young man and his success extends well beyond the pool. Grant’s excellent leadership skills have seen him lead the Australian Swimming Team as the first captain.

His character and enthusiasm in partnership with his natural ability, dedication and strong determination will make him an integral part of the Australian Swimming Team for many years to come.

When addressing audiences from diverse backgrounds, Grant’s passion, charisma and charm are clear for all to see. He captivates crowds, sharing key learning experiences and highlights.
