Jason Walsh looks like an everyman, someone that you would walk past on the street without a second glance, but his drive and determination make him a unique and powerful storyteller. Jason has achieved huge levels of success in his career in the NRL and credits this to his commitment to achieving SMART goals in his professional and personal life.
SMART goals became a passion for Jason in 1991 during his work as a Rugby League official refereeing in one of Australia’s toughest competitive sports. In his stellar career with the NRL Jason has officiated at venues over Australia and New Zealand and across every grade from under-6s to City Country, State of Origin, the NRL Grand Final and International matches. In total Jason officiated 226 NRL games which his final match being Melbourne Storm vs Canberra Raiders at AAMI Park in Melbourne in front of a crowd of 20,508 people including his family.
Alongside his NRL career Jason also held a position in the financial services industry as an Executive for the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. Jason’s success is a shining example of the effect a work-life balance and flexibility in the workforce can have on achieving professional goals and his presentations show audiences how to achieve this through the SMART goals method.
Jason is also a patron of a number of charities and not-for-profit organisations and is a Life Member of the Warringah referees association.

Your presentations around SMART goals, work/life balance and resiliency really connected with the audience on the occasions we had asked you to present. The attendees of our course ‘Inspire and Lead’ often referred to your presentation as a stand out highlight of the course in which they attended multiple presentations throughout the program. Many of them shared their key learnings from your presentation in their own final presentation. I believe your ability to understand the audience and share real life, personal examples allowed them to connect with you and motivate them. You were always well prepared with animated and slides including videos and theories. We also appreciate your proactivity to offer greater assistance and even offer to mentor some of our up and coming leaders - this meant a lot to them and was a generous gift of your time and investment in their development. Your presentations were natural, down to earth, involved a laugh and with great use of media. I am glad we got to work together on multiple occasions and am certain you will do exceptional in all upcoming endeavours. Commonwealth Bank
I wanted to thank you for the time you took out of your day to present to us at Inspire and Lead yesterday. It is invaluable to hear of the experience of executives within our organisation and specifically how you have balanced your passion for two professions throughout your career. The way you speak of your role, your people and your family with such passion show the true qualities of a leader. It was great to hear you speak of the sacrifices both you and your family have made over the years to achieve your goals.
