Peter is the Executive Director of Peter Jennings Strategy Consultants Pty Ltd. He is an adjunct fellow with the Institute of Policy Studies and a columnist for the Australian newspaper. He is a director of Strategic Analysis Australia, a think-tank established in mid-2023.
Peter is the co-author with Michael Shoebridge and Marcus Hellyer of the book, No Higher Priority: A Blueprint for immediate Action on Australia’s Defence 2025-2028.
He was the executive director of the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI) for a decade from 2012 to 2022. He previously worked in senior roles in the Australian Public Service on defence and national security. He was Deputy Secretary for Strategy in the Defence Department (2009-12); Chief of Staff to the Minister for Defence (1996-98) and Senior Adviser for Strategic Policy to the Prime Minister (2002-03).
