We first met Phillip Johnson some years ago when he was guest speaker at an Australian Plants Society meeting, where he spoke about his award-winning garden at the Chelsea Flower Show. We were inspired by his passion and enthusiasm, and how his values aligned with ours, for example, the importance of creating natural habitats that support local wildlife, and the ecological benefits of using Australian native plants, especially in our changing climate. More recently, we attended the National Conference of the Australian Native Plants Society, held in Melbourne in 2024. Phillip delivered the keynote address at the Conference, whose attendees came from all states of Australia and some from overseas. We are sure that his address at this Conference inspired the attendees and left a powerful message relating to the importance of connecting gardening with their broader environmental goals.
