Lynch OAM OLY

People don't remember what you achieved, they remember how you made them feel

Profile

Born in Melbourne, Lynch took up hockey after being selected for the primary school state team. She competed in the 2005 Junior World Cup in Chile before making her senior international debut at the 2006 Champions Trophy in the Netherlands. In 2014, she was awarded Goalkeeper of the Tournament at the World Cup and was later nominated for International Goalkeeper of the Year—an award she went on to win in 2019/2020.

Now a retired veteran Hockeyroo, dual Olympian, dual Commonwealth Games gold medallist, and World Cup silver medallist, Rachael Lynch played 233 games for Australia.

Off the pitch, Lynch works as a registered nurse, athlete wellbeing coach, and frontline health worker. She runs STOMP Goalkeeping and is an active advocate for mental health awareness, serving as an ambassador for R U OK? Day and Lifeline. In 2021, she was inducted into the World Olympians Association’s Olympians for Life program as one of five global past and present athletes recognised for their contribution to society beyond sport.

In 2024, she was awarded an Order of Australia for her service to hockey and was also selected for the COVID-19 Honour Roll, which recognises honours recipients who made significant contributions to Australia’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rachael thank you so much for a fantastic session, your sharing of your personal side was inspiring and captivated our teams. We rated you the best speaker we have had and in particular sports people, they focus too heavily on them and their sporting achievements. Get on board others you will not be disappointed. You can also from listening to you understand why you have been awarded Olympian for Life.

Thank you so much for coming along to the World Games Training Camp on the weekend and speaking with our athletes. Your story was so engaging and we all enjoyed hearing about your journey with the Hockeyroos and the importance of maintaining a balance. Your commitment to the RU OK organisation and "checking in" with your team mates and friends is a valuable reminder to us all about being present and helping others. The amount of questions from the team showed you that they all engaged in your talk and I know that it did inspire them on their own journey in representing Australia at the Special Olympics in Berlin. Thank you for having such a positive influence on the team.
