Born in Melbourne, Pierce Cody started his career in advertising. In 1986, Pierce founded CODY Outdoor, developing a network of over 600 billboards and outdoor advertising placements across Australia and 50 in Hong Kong. The largest outdoor company in Australia, CODY is now part of APN News & Media, where Pierce holds a Board position. He is also a Non-Executive Director of Adcorp Australia Limited.
In partnership with friend, Brett Blundy (founder of Brazin and Sanity), Pierce bought the iconic organic store Macro at Bondi Junction in 2004. As with his inspiration for CODY, Pierce saw the potential for the business to become national, to make organic food accessible; both in its benefits and the products.
Pierce has grown Macro Wholefoods Market to be Australia’s biggest independent organic retailer. Macro has grown to 8 stores in Sydney and Melbourne with plans for a further 2 stores to open in 2007 and 2008, with the eventual plan of 40 Macro stores throughout Australia. A stand alone Macro Café in Newtown opened in March 2007.
Pierce, through his true belief in the goodness of organics, works with industry bodies such as the Biological Farmer’s Association (BFA) to promote the development of the organics industry to the benefit of farmer’s, manufacturers, distributors and consumers.
Until recently Pierce was a Trustee at the Art Gallery of NSW and is a Governor and Director of The Australia Ireland Fund. He was also a founding director of Tower Estate, which owns vineyards and restaurants in NSW’s Hunter Valley region.
