Mahalia and the Soul Mates cover the full range of the soul music spectrum in a show that is at once dynamic, organic, raw and exciting. Great players, great singing and so much feeling.
In the last three years, Mahalia and Ben got married, had a baby, and set out to do some songwriting for a new album of original material. In preparation for the new record, they travelled to LA, New York and Atlanta to write, and also collaborated with local friends Jade MacRae, Phrase and Daniel Merriweather.
Mahalia Barnes and The Soul Mates' second EP - a collection of originals simply titled Volume 2 - followed, with their latest, an album of duets with Prinnie Stevens titled Come Together released in October 2012.
Album: Mahalia Barnes + The Soul Mates released The Soul Mates EP and debut soul revue style album Volume 1 in 2008 and have since toured extensively around the country (doing what they love most!) including supports for Mavis Staples, The Roots, Lionel Richie, British singer James Morrison and others, appearances at the Byron Bay Bluesfest and several Day On The Green shows, as well as many of their own headline shows.
During this time, the band began to hone their sound and The Soul Mates, featuring Rob Woolf and Lachlan Doley on keys, Franco Raggatt on guitar, and founding members Dave Hibbard on drums and Ben Rodgers on bass, really defined the sound that Mahalia had always been looking for.
